Welcome to the Rosewood Pet Blog!

Congratulations… It’s a Puppy!

Becoming a new pet parent can be a daunting experience, but we’re here to support you every step of the way. So whether it’s a boy or a girl, we’ve pulled together these top tips to make sure you’re fully prepared for your new arrival.

Make the journey home as comfortable as possible

When bringing your new puppy home, use a comfortable dog carrier to make the journey home less stressful for your new fur baby. It’s also useful to take a blanket with you to wrap up your new pup, as it will help to make them feel comfortable and secure. If possible, supply a blanket to their place of birth in advance so that it has a familiar scent on it.

Keep a calm environment

Although you will be very excited on the big day, you must ensure that you don’t over-excite your new family member. Too much stimulation could make your puppy nervous, so keep guests and noise to a minimum and let him/her settle into their new surroundings in their own time.

Make your pup feel welcome

Once you arrive at home give your new dog a bowl of food, this will make them feel welcome and secure. Make sure that you’ve got the right size bowl for your new pup - our Fellipet bowls are non-toxic and acrylic, plus they come in a range of colours and sizes to match your kitchen!

Give them space

It’s important that your dog has a space to call their own. Provide your fur baby with a crate, or a cosy bed, in a quiet place where they can rest without disturbance. This may also be where your puppy sleeps at night.

Practice walking

You might not be able to take your pup outside yet (not until they’ve had all the right vaccinations) but this doesn’t mean you can’t put their collar and lead to good use. Try walking your pup around its new pad, so that they can get used to being on a lead. Our Puppy Soft Weave sets are perfect for beginners, as the soft weave material allows you to adjust the size as your pooch grows.

Puppy pads will be your best friend!

Accidents happen, which is why we sell puppy pads! They’re an essential product when it comes to house training your new pup, as they’re super absorbent and lock in moisture to protect your flooring. Reward your pup each time they use the pads, then gradually encourage your pet to go outside to do their business.
